First, read the Chair Report for both topics.
Second, use AI to get a general understanding of your country’s stance on each topic. We recommend asking AI to identify 2 goals your country would want to achieve relative to the topic and 2 non-negotiable outcomes your country would not support.
Third, research reputable sources and catalog your evidence. CISHMUN recommends exploring the following sources to get a deep understanding of your committee, your topic, and diplomatic solutions that align to your country’s best interests:
United Nations: Look specifically for previous relevant UN resolutions, treaties, conventions, programs, agency reports and/or non-UN attempts to solve the problem, including the work of relevant non-governmental organizations.
Your committee’s UN organization (e.g. United Nations General Assembly First Committee)
World Bank(if applicable)
World Health Organization (if applicable)
International Monetary Fund(if applicable)
Your government’s relevant websites
Major reputable news organizations
DURING THE CONFERENCE
-
Western Business Attire. In addition, male delegates need to wear a tie and have a blazer on when at the podium.
-
Your opening speech (printed out), research notes, draft resolution, and devices needed for the conference (laptops, Macs).
-
CISHMUN has your back: committees are leveled so that you’ll be grouped with other newer delegates. Our Chairs are instructed to provide you with support to learn parliamentary procedure (i.e. “the rules of the game”).
-
All delegates are evaluated by their contribution to the discourse of the committee. This does not necessarily mean that delegates who speak a lot are considered to be contributing more, but delegates who are respectful towards all members of the committees and delegates who have quality in their speeches.
-
Each committee will select two delegates for the Best Delegate award and Outstanding Delegate award.
